I’ve owned a construction company since I was in my 20s. However, after witnessing a terrible natural disaster, I was inspired to run a business that cared for people’s safety and well-being.
Helping people is a driving force in my life. My faith inspires this commitment, as do the life experiences that have shaped my desire to serve through my work in construction and real estate.
I first got into construction in college when I was recruited by a home-building company. It was a no-brainer—I moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, to start working in construction. There, I met my wife, Kelly, and about a year after marrying, I started my own construction business.
The timing was interesting since I started my construction business one month prior to the 9/11 attack. The next few months proved to be challenging; much uncertainty led to a downturn in the economy and as a young business owner I learned a lot about myself. It deepened my faith in God and revealed a level of grit, determination and work ethic that was required to survive through that time. It made me appreciate the relationships I had developed with my clients and instilled a desire to serve them with that same determination and work ethic.
As I carried those lessons with me in the years to follow, the business thrived. My wife and I moved to the village of Firth, South of Lincoln and welcomed our 1st child Evan. In addition, I joined the Firth volunteer fire department, a role I carried for many years and one that taught me the value of service. One night was especially impactful — my team and I were storm spotting as a spring thunderstorm began to move towards our community. Suddenly we were paged to the neighboring town of Hallam about 10 miles to the East of us. This town had its own fire department, so we didn’t understand why our department was paged.
We drove there around 9 p.m. through heavy rain, hail, viscous winds and zero visibility. As a captain, I quickly realized that our radio communications were down. We pressed on Eastward thinking that we should be getting close to Hallam, but it was hard to see through the debris everywhere. A tree across the road brought us to a halt and the crew jumped out of the rig. Once we leveled our flashlights, we realized we were in the middle of Hallam — but the town had been leveled. A tornado had passed through, decimating everything. We began a 48-hour rescue mission, searching for people buried in the debris or trapped in their basements.
That was an educational for me as I saw firsthand how traditional construction methods are completely vulnerable to tornadoes. As the owner of a construction company, I asked myself, “What can I do better to protect my clients when I build their home?” That night in Hallam marked the beginning of no longer seeing clients as customers but rather as people who absolutely needed safe homes.
In 2008, my family and I relocated to Central Nebraska. Once again, I started my construction business from scratch in our new location. We quickly grew to love Kearney, and again grew my business through word of mouth as clients told their friends and family about our exceptional quality, integrity and honesty. Nevertheless, in my goal to serve my clients, I felt limited in my role as only a builder in that I was not able to fully serve my clients real estate needs as well, so I got my real estate license in 2020 to provide the most comprehensive service possible.
Now, I’m delighted to offer my expertise, not only as a REALTOR®, but also as a builder and home inspector, coaching my clients on how to maintain their homes over time. My keen eye for homes, red flags, and repair costs allows me to provide a unique value to all my clients.
My faith in God will always be at the center of everything I do; it motivates me to do good and genuinely care for my clients’ well-being. That service mentality drives me to provide an all-encompassing experience that leaves them in a great place.
My business is a full-service, one-stop shop for all real estate needs. I provide a free initial consultation to help homeowners decide whether selling or remodeling is the best option, offering cost estimates and 3D visualizations at no charge. My team also prepares homes for sale, handling minor repairs and touch-ups to ensure a strong first impression—completely free.
For buyers, my background in construction and home inspection allows me to spot red flags and provide expert guidance on maintenance. I prioritize my clients' needs above all else, offering honest advice—even when it’s not what they want to hear—so we can move forward confidently. Even after closing, I remain a trusted resource, connecting clients with my team of contractors —including carpenters, HVAC specialists, and plumbers— for any home repairs.
I specialize in residential real estate, land development, and investment properties, helping investors grow their portfolios. Many of my clients become lifelong friends, and I stay in touch for years—even decades—after the transaction. Once we work together, you can always count on me for all your house maintenance needs.
Sincerely,
Ben Kinnison
